Hello everyone … welcome to the fourth episode of the Knitting Expat Podcast … I’m hoping for this to be a way for me to get more involved with the online knitting community … so please do get in touch … I’d love to hear from you … so far I’ve been loving the interaction with other knitters from around the world that this new avenue has opened up to me … come join the fun …

Here is this weeks episode … Sorry its a day late I was having uploading problems with my internet and Youtube yesterday!

Things I talked about …

INTRODUCTION & WHERE TO FIND ME:

Hi my name is Mina, I currently live in Bahrain with my Husband and 2 cats, we lived in Dubai up until recently and before that we were in London UK. You can learn more in the ABOUT ME section, otherwise if you have any questions please leave a comment or send me a message on Ravelry/Instagram.

You can find me on RAVELRYINSTAGRAM … and my LIFE BLOG … and now of course YOUTUBE

I have also created a RAVELRY GROUP for the Knitting Expat Podcast so you can join in the conversation there …

ON THE NEEDLES:

1. STRIPES GONE CRAZY – Yarn is mostly DUBAI KNITS FAITH HOPE & LOVE in the Bridesmaid, Smokey Orchid and Wisterious colourways, and the fourth colour is a Grey DROPS BABY ALPACA SILK yarn, the pattern is by Atelier Alfa on Ravelry.

UP AND COMING PROJECTS:

1. PERSISTENCE IS KEY … I have some Caron yarn in my stash that I want to use up and I think this cabled cardigan will be perfect! Plus I’ve been wanting to make a cabled cardigan for ages …

2. MARCO POLO – As it turned out I actually had enough of my Icelandic KAMBGARN yarn in my stash to knit this cardigan and I’ve done all the swatches for this now so just need to do the maths and figure out the best needle size to go for …

3. APRIL SOCKS – I’m going to be knitting my April Socks out of EVERYTHING OLD hand dyed yarn that was gifted to me by my dear friend Jocy … I’ll just be doing a plain vanilla sock with Fish Lips Kiss Heel … this will be my entry for both the 12 SOCKS IN 2015 KAL and the NEON APRIL KAL being run by the CAFFEINATED KNITTING Ladies …

4. FEATHERWEIGHT/ HITCHHIKER – So I got some red bamboo yarn a couple weeks ago and I can’t decide if I should make a shawl (Hitchhiker) or a cardigan (Featherweight) out of it … would love to hear what you think?

DESIGNS & FINISHED OBJECTS:

1. BEANIE OR SLOUCH HAT? – I released my first pattern today … its a free Ravelry download and is available now … I would love to see what you knit with this pattern so please tag me on instagram or share on Ravelry so I can see what you come up with …

2. DELAYED DEPARTURES – This is a cowl I worked on while I was delayed at Dubai Airport on my way home on Thursday evening … hence the name … I’m almost ready to release this design so if anyone is interested in doing a test knit of this pattern then please send me a message …

How does test knit works? It sounds interesting. I’m a new knitter so I am not so familiar of all the things yet. 🙂

Well for a test knit you would be sent the pattern for free and be expected to knit the pattern as written, but with the understanding that you are testing the pattern for the designer so it’s a trial run to make sure the pattern is understandable etc.

I’d say this pattern is well suited for intermediate beginners but some experience with lace knitting and ssk, k2tog and yarn overs would be useful.

I see. Very informative. I will probably try something like this when I am confident enough. Hehe. Thanks!
